About The Event
As a part of SFS Guwahati’s Community Outreach Program, a group of dedicated students embarked on a visit to nearby old-age homes on 14th September 2023. The organizations were – Jyoti Niketan - Blind School, Satgaon, Amar Ghar, Old Age Home, Patharquary, Auxilium Snehalaya, Noonmati and UTSAH, Child Rights Organisation, Bamunimaidam.
This initiative aimed to instill a sense of empathy, kindness, and social responsibility in our students, while also extending support and companionship to the elderly residents of the home.
The students along with the teacher in-charges went from the school premises around 10:00 AM to the old age homes and childcare facilities. Our students engaged in meaningful interactions with the elderly residents and little ones, spending time listening to their life stories, experiences, and challenges. These conversations proved to be profoundly enriching for both the students and the elderly residents, forging connections across generations. The students demonstrated genuine empathy and respect throughout the visit, fostering a deep appreciation for the wisdom and resilience.
In addition to the visit, our students organized a charitable donation drive within the school community. The purpose was to collect essential items that could enhance the quality of life for the elderly residents. The donated items included food, clothing, etc. These donations were handed over to the administrators, who expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the students' generosity. The donations served to improve the comfort and well-being of the needy, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve. The program ended with the students returning around 1:30 PM.
SFS Guwahati is deeply grateful to the organisations for warmly welcoming our students and allowing them to be a part of this meaningful experience. We believe that these experiences will shape our students into responsible and compassionate citizens, dedicated to making the world a better place.
