About The Event
A 3rd SFS Inter-School Debate Competition named “It’s Debatable” was held at SFS Guwahati on 8th September 2023. The competition aimed to hone the students' public speaking skills and teach them to be articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. The competition began around 9.00 am in the morning with all the participants coming and registering themselves.
The program began with a prayer song. There were a panel of guests for today’s program starting with Chief guest – Deepak Shrama (Advocate, Guwahati High Court / Journalist), Speaker Mrs Bidula Sharma, Faculty in Dept. Of Education, Gauhati University , Judge Mr Bishaldeep Kakati, Advocate of Guwahati High Court. He is a 3 times winner of the prestigious Parag Kumar Das Memorial State Level Debate Competition.
The program began with Rev. Fr. George Thomas delivering his words of welcome and thereby welcoming and felicitating the guests. Soon after the felicitation ceremony the debate competition with the topic, “The Recent Developments Taking Place in Artificial Intelligence will pose a Global Threat to Human Existence” began wherein it was a wonderful sight to watch the young students debate and expressing their point of view on the mentioned topic. 17 schools took part in it with a total participant count of around 85 participants.
After the short lunch break, the prize distribution ceremony took place wherein the judges encouraged the students and applauded them for their confidence and for the way they spoke and distributed the trophies, certificates along with cash prizes to the winners. The winners were –
1st Best team – Army Public School, Narengi
2nd Best team – Srimanta Shankar Academy, Dispur
Best speaker ( for the motion) – Anushka Doley, Army Public School, Narengi
2nd Best speaker ( for the motion) – Basudha Gautam Das, Srimanta Shankar Academy, Dispur
Best speaker (against the motion) – Trishul Gautam Thakuria, SAI RNS
2nd Best speaker (against the motion)- Sadika Naorem, Army Public School, Narengi
Best interjector - Niaz Tanveer Islam, DPS Guwahati
2nd Best interjector- Pragyan Barman, Guwahati Public School
A special award was given to Jyotishman Kalita, Monfort School for his exceptional Debting skills.
Overall the event was a grand success.
